Dental Emergencies

Dental Emergencies in Rochester, NY

Patients sometimes wonder if the oral pain they are experiencing is a true dental emergency. If the discomfort is intense enough to impair your ability to eat, speak, or manage your daily life, then it is an emergency.

To be addressed properly, dental emergencies require a skilled hand. Dr. Susan Bracker and her team have extensive experience in treating dental emergencies, quickly repairing smiles, and restoring comfort to individuals of all ages.

Prompt and effective treatment in an urgent dental situation can be the difference between saving a tooth and losing it. When we receive a call about emergencies during office hours, we do our best to arrange to see you within the same day. If the same day is not possible, we organize our schedule to get you in by the next available appointment.

Relieving Discomfort

We can help reduce the pain caused by a dental emergency and provide pain-relieving medications to alleviate any aching, sensitivity, or soreness. When treating serious dental issues, we make sure all sources of pain are properly numbed, allowing emergencies to be comfortably addressed. Our dental team is compassionate and understanding when helping patients with emergencies.

We can address the following emergencies:

Broken Teeth
Damaged or Dislodged Fillings, Crowns, and Bridges
Dental Infection
Advanced Tooth Decay
Damaged Dentures

What You Can Do

There are a few things patients can do before visiting the office. If a permanent tooth is knocked out of the socket, rinse in warm water and replace it immediately. This ensures your best chances of keeping it. If your child knocks out a tooth, put it in milk. Although it may not be possible to reattach it, the tooth can be used to make a temporary replacement.

When teeth are broken or fractured, the exposed area can be sensitive or feel discomfort. Make sharp edges softer with dental wax, take pain medication if necessary, and avoid chewing in that area. Be sure to collect all pieces and fragments for reattachment.
